What is a baby sprinkle?

A baby sprinkle is a smaller version of a baby shower, typically held for second or subsequent children. It's a more intimate affair and often focuses on celebrating the new addition to the family rather than traditional baby shower games and gifts.

It's completely up to the parent-to-be to decide whether they even want a baby sprinkle. Nowadays, with many parents throwing a baby gender reveal party, adding in a smaller celebration like a baby sprinkle might seem more appropriate, or a practical choice for some parents.

Even if it is a smaller celebration, there are few things you want to keep in mind and lots of cute ideas for your baby sprinkle!

How to plan a baby sprinkle?

Here are few steps to take when planning a baby sprinkle.

1. Decide on a theme

While baby showers usually have a specific color palette or theme, baby sprinkles can be more laid-back with their themes. You can also skip the theme if it may add more stress to planning your baby sprinkle. However, if you do decide to having a theme, then I've listed few simple ideas you can consider below!

2. Keep it simple

Since the purpose of a baby sprinkle is to celebrate the new addition to the family, keep it sweet and simple. Have the sprinkle for a shorter duration during non-meal times to keep the planning process simple (ie. 2-4pm) or have a brunch themed baby sprinkle.

3. Consider kid-friendly activities

If you have children attending the sprinkle or if the parent-to-be has older kids, consider having some fun kid-friendly activities. This will not only keep the little ones entertained but also add to the overall celebration. Some ideas include a craft station, coloring activities, or simple games like "play doh baby shower games" so kids can play with play doughs and participate in the baby shower game.

4. Keep baby sprinkle games simple

Activities are not necessary for a baby sprinkle, but if you do want to include some games, make sure they are low-key and enjoyable for all. Some ideas could include decorating onesies or bibs, or creating a wishes book for the baby.

5. Have a light refreshment spread

A full meal may not be necessary for a baby sprinkle, but having some light refreshments can add to the cozy atmosphere. Consider having a grazing table with snacks and finger foods, or serving up cute and themed treats. If kids will be attending the baby sprinkle, consider having kid friendly snacks to keep them happy and full.

6. Keep gifts optional

Unlike traditional baby showers where gift-giving is expected, a baby sprinkle is more about celebrating without the pressure of gift expectations. Make it clear in the invitation that gifts are not mandatory, and if guests do want to bring something, suggest small items or consider gifts that a parent to be might need when they have more than one baby in the family.
