Valuable discussion with Camille L. Miller, MBA, Ph.D. ABD! I have been impressed by all the stories from my co-authors shared in her Best-Selling Bookđ It illustrates a wide array of scenarios integrating one's purpose with their work. Each brings a new perspective to "work".Re-listening to this interview the day after Labor Day Celebrations, I am more and more convinced that "caregiving", while an act of love, is "work" - even the act of "producing" off-spring is called "Labor"! As the country faces a caregiving shortage and, a noted 75% of the working population serves as caregivers, caregivers should not be penalized when they attempt to #returntowork. The country benefits from their service. While many #womenreturners are eager to return to a professional setting, the increase in flexibility that hybrid provides makes managing their dual responsibilities feasible. It allows them to participate. It is "work-work" balance that they seek because those external-to-work responsibilities are valuable "work". Without such flexibility, more women than men will remain sidelined impacting gains in gender-equality.

The engineering industry is making significant strides in diversity, as evidenced by the inspiring story of Bolaji Sofoluwe's recognition on Powerful Media's Powerlist 2024. Hailing from Essex, Mrs. Sofoluwe is a managing director, board chairwoman, and mentor within the UK Innovation Agency. Her commendable work within these capacities has earned her a spot on the Powerlist, a distinction that acknowledges exceptional and influential individuals within Britain's black community.Particularly notable is her heightened focus on inclusivity within the science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) field. Mrs. Sofoluwe is encouraging more women to explore engineering, traditionally a male-dominated industry. As chairwoman of BGEN International, she leads a women's forum that motivates young women to consider careers in mechanical and electrical engineering. This calculated targeting at a young age aims to shift industry norms and deepen the talent pool.Simultaneously, she is cultivating the importance of female contributions in company policy-making, which contributes to her broader mission to invigorate the voices of women in business leadership roles. Her leadership role also extends to her position as managing director of ETK Group, an organization with strong ties to African markets. The acknowledgement Mrs. Sofoluwe has received is not only an endorsem*nt for her stellar work in the industry, but it is also a testament to the growing acceptance and appreciation of diversity within the engineering sector. This highlight serves as a beacon, signalling the industry's continuing effort in fostering diversity and motivating more women to explore the limitless potential within engineering fields. It is not just about diversifying, it's about leveraging unique perspectives to fuel innovation and growth in engineering and beyond.

Arts and Community

Why we want you to know that diversity matters - even today - in 2023.Context: arts charity Wise Thoughts founded in 1999 (more than 24 years ago) was nominated for The National Diversity Awards in UK.It had been a long journey and not an easy one when we are trying to highlight the issues of BAME and LGBTQI+ communities with very limited financial resources. And promoting those âmarginalisedâ issues of so-called âminority within minorityâ people via the arts with an acute understanding that the arts are not accessible enough to all people as they should be. But precisely for that reason, the arts offered us the most cost effective and perhaps more impactful avenue, considering those limitations (if you know youâre set âagainst all oddsâ - which odd you pick as best option?!).We are proud to be nominated, and who knows, we may be even fortunate enough to be worthy of a prestigious award. More importantly, we would want to see that true diversity is a resolve that everyone who is interested needs to be included, their contributions are equally valued or appreciated and irrespective of who they are/or who they love/or what their cultural heritage may look like to others. This is it! Thatâs it! Happiness is a worthy enough award if you think we understood the diversity, equality/ equity and inclusion (DE&I) well.If you choose to vote for us for in 2023 - that chance to finally win a national award, please visit this link and express your opinion: https://lnkd.in/dqm4MbEHThank you.Niranjan Kamatkar and Subodh Rathod. From the founding years of Wise Thoughts. #artmatters

The melting pot is at the heart of the American immigration system. The melting pot comes from the idea that all of the cultural differences in the United States meld together as if they were metals being melted down to become a stronger alloy. - The Golden Beacon. October 28, National Immigrants Day, gives us a reason to reflect on diversity and inclusion. Waupaca Foundry is working to build a more diverse, inclusive team that reflects the communities where we live, work, and play. We're cultivating a culture where individuals can bring their best selves to work and do what it takes to build a more equitable workplace and community.â Watch this: https://waupaca.co/45K5G6g
