How to make Fruit Pizza

There are a lot of fruit pizza recipes out there. You have plenty to choose from and I am sure they are all delicious and amazing. But you come to my blog to make your life easier, right? I try to make simple and easy recipes that will make your life easier, not harder. At the same time, my recipes give you the same taste quality that you would get if you spent hours in the kitchen.

When it comes to my fruit pizza recipe, I keep it very simple. I use refrigerated sugar cookie dough (your halfway home). You have to let the dough sit out at room temperature for about 15 minutes so it can be easy to work in your pizza pan. Then, I cream the cream cheese with some vanilla extract and powdered sugar. Finally, I top my pizza with various fruit and

You can use whatever fruit you would like. The only fruit I probably wouldn’t recommend is melon and that is a personal preference (ignore me). I am not a huge fan of honeydew or cantaloupe melon. I keep trying it in hopes I come around to it, but it hasn’t actually happened just yet. It is completely up to you! You can even add nuts if you would like. I did that in my Fall Inspired Fall Pizza which is made with roasted apples, cherries, and candied pecans with a pumpkin cookie crust. I got you covered all year long when it comes to fruit pizza. It is one of my favorite desserts that takes no time at all to make.

How I learned to make Fruit Pizza

Now let’s go back to me taking Home Ec. I should’ve known then that I had a love for cooking because I absolutely LOVED that class. Not because it was an easy A and I learned all the tools to be domestic, but because I loved the cooking aspect of the course. More importantly, I loved my teacher, Mrs. Murphy. I am not sure if she is still out there and I am sure she isn’t reading my blog, but in case you are Mrs. Murphy, thank you for planting the seed that has grown into my blog, Brown Sugar.

Thank you, Mrs. Murphy!!!

I learned how to make scrambled eggs, pancakes, muffins, bread, and a few other basic dishes that I can’t remember. But what sticks out the most with anyone who has taken Home Economics at my old high school was learning to make fruit pizza on a sugar cookie! The day we made the fruit pizza, I remember the students in my class shared it with their friends and everyone would ask the rest of us who were in the class to share as well. My entire high school was doped up on fruit pizza! It is that good!

Commonly Asked Questions

How do you keep fruit pizza from getting soggy?

Be sure that you don’t rinse the fruit before because this allows the fruit to wilt. You definitely want to make sure the fruit is as dry as possible. Also, keep the pizza in a cool place. Having it in a warm place could have the fruit release its juices.

Can fruit pizza be made a day ahead?

Yes. As mentioned previously, I wouldn’t put the fruit on the pizza until closer to serving. To keep it fresh and want to make it ahead of an event. What I would do is bake the cookie crust and set it aside, make the cream cheese frosting and put it in a container, and slice the fruit and set it aside as well.

What kind of fruit can you put on the fruit pizza?

You can put just about any fruit on the pizza. I typically add all berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and blackberries), kiwi, mandarin oranges, and grapes. But you can definitely add peaches, mango, and pineapple. I wouldn’t use bananas.

Description

This Sugar Cookie Fruit Pizza recipe is made with a sugar cookie crust, cream cheese frosting, and topped with various fruit of your choice. This is the perfect summer dessert.

Ingredients

Units Scale

  • 1 1/2 lbs. Refrigerator Sugar Cookie dough
  • 16 oz. cream cheese, softened
  • 1/2 c + 1 tbsp. Powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tbsp. Vanilla extract
  • 3 whole kiwi’s, sliced and peeled
  • 1pint strawberries, sliced
  • 2 mandarin oranges
  • 1/2 pint blueberries
  • 1/2 c. raspberries

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350 Degrees. Spray a 15-17 inch pizza pan or 15X11 rectangular baking sheet with baking spray.
  2. Spread the sugar cookie dough evenly leaving one inch away from the pan so as the cookie dough bakes it won’t overflow into your oven ( that happened to me). NOTE: I would place aluminum foil on the rack where the pizza will be baked in case it overflows, just in case. Bake for 10 minutes. The cookie dough will be slightly browned. Allow cooling completely.
  3. Using a handheld electric mixer or standing mixer, add the cream cheese and blend until creamy. Add the powdered sugar slowly and vanilla extract until well mixed and smooth. Spread across the sugar cookie crust. Begin to layer and spread the fruit across the crust as desired.
