Six-year-olds can be a tricky group to shop for. You may have noticed that some can still enjoy their more advanced little kid toys while others have started eyeing their older siblings' big kid toys. This can make finding the perfect gifts and toys for 6-year-olds feel a bit daunting — but the good news is this is a great age to shop for!
Some of the best gifts for 6-year-olds can be found right in your local toy aisle. These include board games, building sets (such as LEGO), and dolls. But don't let those ideas limit you. By age six, most kids have started developing the skills they need to read, which means you can check out the early readers section for books.
Six-year-old kiddos are also at an inquisitive age, so STEM, STEAM, and other science and tech-themed gifts are especially appreciated. As with most kids, sensory toys can offer hours of enjoyment too.
Each of the toys we added to this list will not only bring joy to the child you’re shopping for, but they'll also help engage some of their early childhood development needs, allowing you to give the gift of a great head start. For more kids toy ideas, check out our complete list of toy gift guides for every age, at the end of the article.
