Which Toyota Tacoma has the Longest Bed? Tacoma Bed Dimensions (2024)

The Toyota Tacoma is one of the most popular trucks in the midsize class. If you’re considering a Tacoma specifically so you can use the truck bed to move or carry cargo, you may be curious about the bed sizes you can choose from. Which Toyota Tacoma has the longest bed? What dimensions are available?

Currently, the Toyota Tacoma is available with either a five or six-foot bed. The Tacoma Limited and TRD Pro are only available with a five-foot bed, while all other trim levels give you the option to choose between the two lengths. All Tacoma beds have a width of 41.5” and a height of 19.1”.

Below, we will discuss which Toyota Tacoma models come with which bed lengths, as well as which Tacoma trim level experts consider the best. Keep reading to learn how to choose the best truck for your needs!

What Bed Lengths do Tacomas Come in?

Currently, you have the option to choose between two bed lengths when you purchase your new Toyota Tacoma.

There is the short bed option, which measures 60.5” in length, or just over five feet. If you need a little extra length, you can opt for the long bed option instead. This bed measures 73.7” in length, or just under 6 feet two inches.

Both the short and long beds measure 41.5” in width, or approximately three-and-a-half feet. Both bed options also measure 19.1” in height, or about one-and-a-half feet. Most Tacoma trim levels allow you to choose between short and long bed options. However, there are two trim levels that only offer the five-foot option:

  • Toyota Tacoma Limited
  • Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro

If you want a six-foot bed, you will need to select another trim level.

Which Tacoma has a 6-Foot Bed?

You won’t have any shortage of options when purchasing a Toyota Tacoma with a six-foot bed. As of 2022, the following trim levels offer a six-foot long bed option:

  • Toyota Tacoma SR5
  • Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport
  • Toyota Tacoma Base Model
  • Toyota Tacoma TRD Off-Road

All of these models come with the signature Tacoma look and a range of driver amenities. However, there is one model all the experts agree is the best.

Which Toyota Tacoma Trim Level Should I Choose?

If you’re looking for a Toyota Tacoma with a six-foot bed, all the experts agree that the TRD Off-Road is the way to go. This trim level offers 16-inch wheels and excellent off-roading capabilities, along with the modern amenities drivers today are looking for.

When you go with the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, you will get to enjoy the following features without opting for any upgrades or additional packages:

  • WiFi hotspot
  • Heated power mirrors
  • Keyless entry and ignition
  • Driver assistance features
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

If you upgrade with the recommended optional package, you will also be able to use parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alerts, and blind spot monitoring features. Despite all these modern amenities and the truck’s enhanced off-road capabilities, the TRD Off-Road is very reasonably priced.

Does the Tacoma Come with an 8-Foot Bed?

As of 2023, the Toyota Tacoma is only available with a five or six-foot bed. While there are currently no trim levels that offer the coveted eight-foot bed, you do have the option of purchasing Toyota’s bed extender, which increases your overall bed length by two feet when the tailgate is down.

The Tacoma bed extender is made of powder-coated material and features locked angle-release mounting brackets, which make the extender easy to both install and remove.

For extra security, it also includes adjustable strap latches. Even with the tailgate down, the extender ensures your Tacoma’s tail lights remain visible to comply with lighting requirements set by the DOT.

Because the Toyota Tacoma is currently only available with a five or six-foot bed, opting for a six-foot trim model and adding the Toyota bed extender is the only way to increase your bed length to eight feet so you can carry more or larger pieces of cargo. You can purchase one of these bed extenders online or at your local Toyota dealership.

Do Any Toyota Trucks Come with an 8-Foot Bed?

If you’re in the market for a new Toyota truck but want or need an eight-foot bed, you might want to reconsider the Tacoma and instead look toward the Toyota Tundra. These trucks have longer beds than Tacomas in general, with the standard options allowing you to choose between a five-and-a-half-foot and a six-and-a-half-foot bed.

However, there is one trim level that offers an eight-foot bed — the 2023 Toyota Tundra Double Cab SR. This model includes 18-inch wheels and allows you to choose between all three bed lengths, each with an extended width of 66.4” and a height of 22.2”.

The Tundra Double Cab SR includes many of the same features as the Tacoma TRD Off-Road, including CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and heated power mirrors. In addition to this, it comes standard with LED headlights and an eight-inch infotainment touchscreen.

Some of the other modern driver amenities you will get with the Double Cab SR include:

  • Hill-start assist
  • Backup camera
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Keyless entry with proximity fob
  • Touch-to-unlock door handles

The eight-foot Toyota Tundra Double Car SR bed is reinforced with aluminum and includes both a deck rail header and tailgate spoiler.

In Conclusion

At this point in time, the Toyota Tacoma is available with either a 5-foot short bed or a six-foot long bed. The Tacoma Limited and Tacoma TRD Pro are only available with the short bed, while all other trim levels offer you the choice between a short bed and a long bed.

While no Tacoma models currently offer an eight-foot truck bed, you can purchase the Toyota bed extender to extend your six-foot bed by two feet. Other than that, the only way to get a Toyota truck with an eight-foot bed is to opt for the Tundra Double Cab SR instead of a Tacoma model.
